Here’s a list of some of the most common frequently asked questions that we’ve received through various channels.

Platforms

On what platforms can I access Fonetti?

Fonetti is currently available for both iPad and a selection of Android tablets.

Which iPad models are most compatible with Fonetti?

Fonetti requires an iPad with iOS version 13 or above, and runs at its’ best on the latest version 15 which includes any iPad released from 2015 onwards. 
To find the version installed on your iPad, go to Settings > General, then tap About..

Can Fonetti be used on Android devices?

Fonetti works on Android tablets, and is available to download from Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.auristech.fonetti

Can Fonetti be used on Google Chrome books or Kindle Fire?

We are developing Fonetti for both Google Chrome Books and Kindle Fire and expect to be releasing versions in 2022.

Can Fonetti be used in browsers or on any other tablets?

We are currently developing a web based version of Fonetti and for both Google Chrome Books and Kindle Fire.

Is Fonetti available on any smartphones (iPhones/Android)?

At this time we do not think the Fonetti experience would be as rich on a small mobile device, which is the most common format of Smartphones. The design of our pages and graphics would be very small on the screen and to break up the text over multiple screens would not be as engaging, and the flow of read speech is lost when handled in short sections.
We want Fonetti to be an aid to natural reading, but also an enjoyable experience, which is why we take time to create colourful imagery to enhance the story and immerse the child in the book.
In the future we may introduce a new range of books which will be designed specifically with Smartphones in mind.

Voice Recognition

Not every word is being recognised by my child/turning green on Fonetti

Our voice technology has an accuracy reading level of around 92pct which is close to human parity, however, as you will appreciate like any voice-enabled software we are not perfect.

Fonetti is a completely new and unique platform and we are still in the BETA stage with our App and as with any voice-enabled technology we will fall short at times,

Fonetti is a reading tool designed to build confidence and reward children, we have set the engine to tolerate some similar sounding words to positively encourage children so they do not feel as though they have done something wrong. We would suggest that with any words they are unsure of to double tap on the word when it will be read aloud for them to repeat.

I am an adult trying out Fonetti and it is not responding to my voice as I would have expected?

Our engine is designed for children’s ‘read speech’ which is a completely different speech pattern to that of adult and conversational speech. As a consequence of this, an adult using our app would not share the same level of reading accuracy or experience as a child’s.

Technology

Can more than one child from the same family access Fonetti?

Yes, by signing up to the family subscription. Children can either share the same device switching profiles inside the app or you can login to your parent account on multiple devices. You can upgrade at any time by logging into your Fonetti account.

Can one account be used to log into more than one device?

Whilst you can log into your Fonetti account on as many devices as you like, each reader profile can only be active on one device at a time.

Can the books be read offline?

Currently our app requires you have an internet connection at all times. We’re working hard to bring our technology offline. Make sure you’ve opted in to receive our email updates so we can let you know when reading offline is available. Sign up here: https://www.fonetti.com/newsletter/

How do I set up a new reader?

If you have a family subscription already, just hit the plus button on the profile selection screen you see when opening the app.

Don’t have a family subscription? You can subscribe online which includes a free trial. Just remember to sign in with the same details used to log in to the Fonetti app.

School Accounts

My child already has a Fonetti subscription, how do I link it to his school account?

There is no need to logout of an existing Fonetti account to connect to a school account. 

  • Click the THREE LINE MENU in the app
  • Click SWITCH READER 
  • Click LINK READER in the bottom left corner
  • Login using the QR code provided by the school, by simply using the tablet’s camera.

My child has a school account but I’d like to sign up for Fonetti. How do I do that?

  • Head to fonetti.com/signup and register for a Fonetti Subscription. You might like to check the gift cards section (fonetti.com/families/gifting), for the latest subscription offers!
  • Once you’ve created your account, open the Fonetti App. Logout of your current school profile, then log back in using your new account details. 
  • Next, click LINK READER in the bottom left corner. Login using the QR code provided by the school, by simply using the tablet’s camera.

Are there more books in the pipeline?

Yes. Books are added regularly with new titles every month.

Subscriptions & Payments

What do I do if my account on Fonetti.com is not linking with the app?

Ensure you have selected the “Sign in” option, not the “Create account” inside the app. Also, check that you are entering the same email address and password you used to register on the website.

How can I check if I am using my free trial?

You can check your subscription details by logging onto your account overview.

How much does a Fonetti subscription cost?

Subscribing to Fonetti costs just £3.49 per month for single user/device access and £4.99 per month for up to 4 users on concurrent devices.

You can now also buy an Annual Subscription Giftcard, where year long access on a single device (up to 4 users) is just £19.99, and on multiple devices (up to 4 tablets) is an amazing £29.99.

How can I update my payment details?

If you are subscribed via our website, you can update your payment details from our online portal.

If you subscribed through the app, you should update your details via the App Store or Google PlayStore

How can I cancel the subscription?

If you aren’t getting the most out of Fonetti, you can cancel your subscription anytime.

If you subscribed through our web portal head over to your account overview and press “Cancel your subscription”.

If you subscribed through the app store or iTunes, please follow Apple’s guide for managing your subscriptions.

Fonetti is currently available in the following countries:
