It’s time for the…

Young Authors’ Competition 2021!

We were inundated with entries last year – it really was phenomenal to read so many super stories, and to have winners from as young as six years old, who are now published authors on Fonetti!

Here’s what you need to know…

Age categories

There are two age categories:

  • up to 9 years
  • 10-18 years

What to submit

Both age groups can submit:

  • Poetry (up to 100 words)
  • Prose (up to 500 words)

Individuals or classes

Excitingly, this year submissions can come in from:

  • Individuals
  • Small groups*
  • Whole classes*

Choose your own theme

There’s no set theme this year because we want to give young authors the freedom to explore hobbies, passions, class topics… whatever inspires, but the poem/prose must be written in English and not go over the word limit.

*A wide range of skills come together to create a book, so group and class collaborations can also include artwork to support the story or poem. The only limit is the imagination! Use paint, pencil, pen, collage, photography, digital, 3D, even film.

Our fabulous judges

We’re honoured and delighted to have the following phenomenal judges:

  • Christina Gabbitas
  • Martin Roberts
  • Donavan Christopher (aka Rappaman)
  • Kirsty Crommie
  • Suzie Lavington

And our brilliant Brand Ambassador, Clare Balding OBE will personally announce the winners and provide a few little tips along the way!

It wouldn’t be a competition without prizes!
The lucky winners of each category (so four in total) will have their stories;

  • published on Fonetti (winners will be published authors!)
  • AND fully illustrated – either from scratch or inspired by your visual submissions.

Winners will also receive;

  • a signed book from Christina Gabbitas
  • a signed copy of Clare Balding’s latest book “Fall Off, Get Back On, Keep Going
  • all school entries will be entered into a draw, and one lucky school will win a year of access to the Fonetti School Portal, for the entire school.

Creativity is widely recommended as one of the best ways to recover from the impact of Covid, so, what’s stopping you?

Get scribbling, get creating and get your entries to competitions@fonetti.com before midnight on Friday 2nd July 2021.

Include the author’s name and age, contact details for a parent or carer and the story!

We’ll announce the winners on our website and across social media on Monday 12th July 2021, so put the date in your diary!
