The short version
Nothing we store on your device is used for advertising or behavioural targeting, on any of our websites or products.
The Fonetti Read-Aloud app, where children read, sets no cookies. It stores a small amount of information on the device so that the app works, and an identifier that our error monitoring uses to group crash reports when something goes wrong. Section 4 sets out what that is.
Nothing in the app asks a child to agree to how their information is used. Those choices are made by a parent or a school, never by the child.
Our public websites do use cookies, including analytics cookies, which are set only if you agree to them. Analytics are how we decide what to improve; they tell us how many people use our sites, which pages they visit and where they run into problems. We do not use any of it to build a profile of you or to follow you across other websites.

1. What cookies are, and what else we store
A cookie is a small file that a website places on your device. It lets a site recognise your browser, so it can keep you signed in, remember a choice you made, or count how many people visited a page.
Websites and apps can also store information on your device in other ways, using what browsers call local and session storage. The law treats all of it the same as cookies, whether information is stored on your device or read back from it, and so does this policy: section 4 covers both.
We ask before setting anything that needs your agreement. Everything else is set automatically, and section 4 says what that is on each site. You can change your mind at any time.
2. The categories we use
The tables in section 4 group what is stored by what puts it there, rather than listing every item. They use these categories.
| Category | What it does |
|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Keeps you signed in, remembers your cookie choice, protects forms from misuse, prevents payment fraud |
| Statistics | Counts visitors and shows us how people move around a site, so we can improve it |
| Advertising and targeting | We do not use these. They build a picture of what you look at, to target advertising at you and to measure how ads perform |
3. Your choices
On our websites, you can change your answer at any time on the site that asked you. Each site asks separately, and section 4 says how to change your answer on each.
Your answer is stored in a cookie on your own device, and we keep no record of it. On fonetti.com and readaloudchallenge.co.uk it lasts a year, and we ask again after that. On auris.tech, Squarespace’s own cookie control remembers it.
How long something stays on your device depends on what put it there. Some of it clears when you close the browser, some lasts for a set period, and some stays until you clear it.
In your browser, you can block or delete cookies through your settings. The same settings cover other stored site data. If you block all cookies, including strictly necessary ones, parts of our sites will not work. Guidance is available for Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox.
If you would rather block Google Analytics everywhere, you can install Google’s browser add-on.
4. What each site and app uses
Each table lists what is put on your device, whichever way it is stored. Where a cookie or key name is stable and unlikely to change we list it, otherwise we’ll describe it. Tools that store nothing on your device are not listed here, and our Privacy Policy covers those.
