Privacy Policy: Home Users
Auris Tech Limited

Who this addendum is for
This addendum is for parents and guardians who hold a Fonetti account for their own child or children. We call this a home user account.
It covers only the things that are specific to that relationship. Everything else (who we are, how speech is processed, how we secure data, where data is stored, international transfers, your rights, cookies, and how to contact us) is in the Privacy Policy. That policy and this addendum together are our privacy notice for you.
Throughout this addendum, “you” means the parent or guardian who holds the account, and includes anyone with parental responsibility for the child. “your child” means each child whose reader profile is set up under your account.
1. Our role
Auris Tech is the controller for all personal data described in this addendum. We decide what data is collected and why, and we are accountable to you for it.
2. Your account and your child’s profile
Fonetti home accounts are held by adults. When you create one and set up a reader profile for a child, you confirm that you hold parental responsibility for that child, or otherwise have authority to act on their behalf, and that you agree to their use of Fonetti.
You remain responsible for what happens under your account.
3. Personal data we collect
3.1 About you, the parent or guardian
| Data | Why we have it |
|---|---|
| Your name and contact details | To identify the account holder, give you access to your account, and send you service messages and reading-progress reports |
| Payment data: cardholder name, billing email address, and records of your subscription and transactions | To take payment for a subscription. Your card number, expiry date and security code are entered directly with our payment provider and are never stored on our systems |
| Your account settings and preferences, including what you have asked us to send you | To run the account the way you have set it up, and to respect your choices |
| Support correspondence | To answer your questions and keep a record of what we told you |
| Country, region and postcode | To produce regional results, and to understand and report on reading at different geographic levels |
3.2 About your child
We deliberately collect as little as possible about a child.
| Data | Why we have it |
|---|---|
| Name for the reader profile | So the app can address your child and you can tell profiles apart. It affects nothing else, so a first name, a nickname or any other name you prefer works just as well |
| Age or year of birth | To offer books and reading levels appropriate to your child |
| Gender, if you choose to give it | To produce figures about how our library and our content work for boys and girls. This is optional, and “rather not say” is one of the answers. We do not use it to make any decision about your child |
| Reading-progress data: what your child has read and how their reading is developing | The core purpose of Fonetti: to help your child read and to show you how they are getting on |
| App usage information: how and when the app is used | To make the app work properly and to improve it |
3.3 Collected automatically
| Data | Why we have it |
|---|---|
| Device and technical information: device type and model, operating system, app version, IP address | To deliver the service to your device, and to diagnose faults |
| Diagnostic, crash and error logs | To find and fix problems |
3.4 Speech
Audio is not recorded or stored. Fonetti listens to your child reading in order to follow along and measure progress, and section 5.1 of the Privacy Policy explains how that works.
4. Why we use this data, and our lawful basis
| What we do | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Run your account and provide the reading service to your child: their reader profile, progress reports and feedback, customer support, and taking payment for your subscription | Performance of our contract with you. You are our customer; providing the service to your child is how we perform that contract |
| Adapt reading content and difficulty to your child | Performance of a contract |
| Send service messages about your account, security or policy changes | Performance of a contract, or legal obligation |
| Keep the service secure, and prevent fraud and misuse | Legitimate interests, protecting our service and our users |
| Fix faults and improve the product, using usage and diagnostic data aggregated wherever possible | Legitimate interests, improving a service our users rely on |
| Produce statistics about reading, by area and over time. See section 7.1 | Legitimate interests, understanding how reading is going across the country in order to improve what we offer. Retention for statistical purposes is expressly permitted by Article 5(1)(e). |
| Send you marketing about Fonetti (never to your child) | Consent, given at registration and changeable at any time in the Fonetti Parent Portal at user.fonetti.com |
| Meet legal, accounting and tax obligations | Legal obligation |
Your child is not a party to our contract with you, but the service exists to be used by them, so processing their reading data is how we perform it. Where we rely on legitimate interests, we give a child’s interests particular weight. Section 14 of the Privacy Policy explains how to object or withdraw consent.
The service itself runs on our contract with you, so there is no consent to withdraw. Section 6 is how you stop it, and section 7 lists the few records that outlive it.
5. Who we share it with
We share personal data with service providers covering hosting, email delivery, payment processing, support ticketing and error monitoring. They act on our instructions only.
Each provider receives only what it needs to do its job. Our payment provider, for example, handles your subscription and never receives anything about your child.
We do not share personal data with advertisers or data brokers.
6. Your control over your child’s data
Because you hold the account, you have direct control. You do not need to ask us. You can do all of this yourself, in the Fonetti Parent Portal at user.fonetti.com or in the Fonetti app at app.fonetti.com:
- See your child’s reader profile and reading-progress reports
- Correct your child’s details
- Delete an individual reader profile, which deletes that child’s reading history
- Delete your account
In the app, changes to a child’s profile are behind your parent PIN, so a child cannot edit or delete their own data by accident. The Fonetti Parent Portal is behind your account sign-in.
For anything you cannot do yourself, such as exporting your data or asking us to delete the account for you, contact us using the details in section 2 of the Privacy Policy. A deletion request sent to our support team is usually the fastest route, and it counts as a data protection rights request from the day it arrives, with the response times in section 14 of that policy.
7. How long we keep it
| Data | Retention period |
|---|---|
| Account data, including your postcode and your child’s profile | Until you delete it. Deletion happens straight away, with no waiting period; section 12 of the Privacy Policy explains how long backups take to catch up |
| Reading-progress data | While the reader profile exists. When it is deleted, it goes with it. See section 7.1 |
| Support correspondence | 12 months from case closure |
| Diagnostic and crash logs | No more than 30 days |
| Billing and transaction records | 6 years, to meet tax and accounting obligations |
7.1 Deleting means deleting
We report on how much children are reading, and how that changes from year to year.
When a profile or account is deleted, we delete it. We may keep figures about reading in a fully and irreversibly anonymised form, which cannot be linked back to your child by us or by anyone else, and we use those only to produce statistics. Anything that could still point to your child is deleted with the profile.
